They can now be processed into new drugs that are successful in treating certain forms of cancer and are being introduced to British hospitals. A processing plant operates at Le Mans, in France; Yew Clippings Ltd has been appointed sole supplier to this plant from the United Kingdom. The company requires only clippings taken during late-July, August and September, when the active ingredient is at its most concentrated level. Payment is made but this varies with the availability of supply. The last information we have is that because the return to any individual is likely to be relatively small (£2 per sack) unless specifically requested otherwise the money will be sent direct to the two supported charities. These are: Marie Curie Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Relief. The charities have received some £100,000 in the past few years. The company adds a further donation for each sackfull (50 pence per sack at last notification). If you will have yew clippings (next year now, of course) contact the company before you start to check when they have capacity, and to arrange supply of sacks and collection.
