In the November

One of the greatest stories Jesus ever told was about a man who had two sons. One was a rebel who took his share of the family fortune and squandered it. When he came back home broken and broke, his father ran out to meet him and threw a party. The other son was a robot who obeyed the rules religiously. He came back from the fields where he worked to discover they were having a party for his brother, but because of jealousy he refused to go in. So his father begged him to come. Neither boy knew his father. One thought he was a task master to be eluded, the other thought he was a taskmaster to be placated by hard work. They were both wrong! They didn’t know that just being born into the family guaranteed them the father’s love and acceptance, plus the benefits of being a son. The Bible says that salvation is "God’s gift from start to finish!" We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we had done the whole thing! "For by grace are you saved through faith. It is not by works, so that no one can boast." You’ll never stand in heaven and say, "look what Jesus and I did." That’s not the way it works. We are accepted by God for one reason only; because we trusted in what Jesus did for us on the cross. When a thing is finished there is nothing that we can add to it. When Jesus breathed his last breath on the cross he cried, "It is finished." Trusting in that finished work of Christ we are saved, redeemed, forgiven and accepted. "Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to your cross I cling." Salvation is not "Do! Do! Do!" Its "Done! Done! Done!" Jesus has done all that needs to be done. All you have to do now is trust him! Why don’t you put your trust in him today?
