Gamlingay Parish Council

Hedging had been ordered for the boundary between the Village College and the Recreation Ground but would not be available until the next planting season.

As it was anticipated that the lease with Merton College would be completed in the near future, a meeting was arranged to consider recommendations for the extension to the recreation facilities. It was agreed that an application for an Operating Centre for ten goods vehicles and five trailers at Green End Industrial Estate would be opposed.

It was reported that the Village Design Statement initiative was progressing well and noted that the open day on 24th February had been well attended.

The seat by the iron church would be repaired.

Negotiations for the siting of the mobile youth unit were still in hand. It was recommended that a self contained extension should be built on the side of the Community Centre to provide accommodation for the youth club and possibly other youth organisations. This had been approved in principle by the Community Centre Committee at its AGM.

Quotations for work at the tennis courts were considered and it was agreed that this would be undertaken if the Tennis Club was willing to contribute 50% of the cost.

The Parish Council office will be open for the Heritage Open Day between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Saturday, 8th September and this will be combined with a second exhibition of the Village Design Statement. BT advised that it would cost £40,000 to put overhead lines underground. It was agreed that this work would not be undertaken.

It was anticipated that the new permissive path to Gamlingay Wood would be open in the Summer of 2001. Negotiations were in hand with the County Council to change Gamlingay direction signs at The Heath as these were felt to be misleading.

It was recommended that a 7.5 tonne limit should be introduced in Gamlingay between 11.00p.m. and 7.00a.m. each day.

Six new dog bins had been installed.

It was noted that the Structure Plan exhibition had been very well attended.
