In the September
The Parish Council meets at 7.30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Sir John Jacob's Almshouse Chapel in Church Street. Everyone on the Electoral Roll is welcome to join us and to ask any questions relating to the work of the Parish Council or to raise other matters of concern in the Village. Two Planning Committee meetings are held each month, the first is immediately before the Parish Council meeting at 7.00 p.m. and the second is held on the fourth Tuesday in the month at 7.30 p.m. Although the Parish Council Office is formally only open between 11.00 a.m. and mid-day on Mondays and Fridays, the Clerk is usually there between 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays and between 1.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. on Wednesdays and is happy to answer any questions. Planning Applications are also at the office if any members of the public would like to see them.

Following the recommendation that any new development should provide a proportion of affordable housing for sale specifically to young people from the village, it was noted that the Developer of the Keen site had suggested the possibility of the freehold of three houses on the site being transferred to the Parish Council for sale as leasehold affordable housing. It was noted that the proposal involved the income from the first sale being paid to the Developer and it was agreed that the legal implications would be investigated before any further action was taken. The District Council had been reminded that the land at the rear of the Emplins and St.Mary's must be identified for use as a cemetery. Negotiations were still proceeding with Wimpey Homes because the Parish Council had refused to accept the transfer of the Public Open Spaces in the centre and at the rear of the estate until the area was of a satisfactory standard. Only three young people had joined the last meeting of the Skate Boarding group on 1st July. Ken Lynch, who had been coordinating the group was thanked for all the work he had undertaken in preparing information for the scheme. Interest from so few young people would not justify the expenditure of approximately £60,000 on this scheme and it would not be possible to get grant aid unless more people were involved. If anyone would like to be involved, please contact the Parish Clerk to record your interest. Three signs were to be erected on Station Road to draw attention to the Industrial Estate. The County Council had agreed to undertake a speed survey in order to ascertain whether any action should be taken. Everyone involved was thanked for their support in the Millennium celebration. The production of a Millennium book is now in hand and it was also resolved that a Village Sign would be purchased. Additional parking areas were to be introduced in Murfitt Way in order to avoid congestion in the area. As vandalism at the Recreation Ground was still a major problem, it was agreed that, if the problem continued, the Parish Council would be forced to move the play equipment. It was hoped that the Community Policeman who had recently been appointed would improve policing in the area. Work had not yet been completed at the Cinques crossroads where the road markings had not been painted. The County Council anticipated installing kerbing in Stocks Lane between the Community Centre and Honey Hill and a bid had been submitted for kerbing at Station Road in the vicinity of the Industrial Area. The County Council had advised that the new bracket for the street light in Church End had been made but the size was wrong. More brackets have been ordered which would be fitted as soon as possible. Information about the possible expansion of Comberton College was noted. Thanks were extended to District Councillor Sebastian Kindersley who had supplied copies of all submissions to the Local Plan Inquiry. A meeting had been arranged to agree a response to each application. It was noted that the 39 houses proposed for the West Road/Mill Street site had been withdrawn by the District Council. This was welcomed as Gamlingay, as a Limited Rural Growth Area, had already exceeded its allocation for new housing in the current Local Plan There was great concern about the amount of fly tipping around the village and residents were asked to be vigilant in reporting any instances, especially if they knew the people involved. The hot line number to report problems is 0800 80 70 60. The Parish Council has the right to nominate people for 50% of the properties that become vacant on the Wootton Fields Estate, the other 50% being recommended by the District Council. The main criteria for being allocated a house on the estate is close connections with Gamlingay and the Parish Council holds a list of people who are interested. If you are interested in being considered, please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council on 650310 or call into the Office which is usually open on Monday or Friday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Please note that it is important that you also register your interest with the Housing Department at South Cambridge District Council.
The following is a list of expenditure incurred in repairing vandalism at the Stocks Lane Recreation
Ground:
The cost of this damage is being met out of your Council Tax. Please contact the Parish Council with names of every instance noted and, where possible, with the names of the people involved. The Parish Council can then take legal action against the offenders. The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place on Tuesday, 12th September unless there were any urgent matters to be discussed. Our Member of Parliament will be joining the meeting.
