As you may have seen or heard, 2nd Gamlingay Guides suffered a blow, when their camp store on the Community Centre playing field was the subject of an arson attack on the second day of the school holidays. Our store, which has been there for at least 20 years, was deliberately set fire to in broad daylight. The floor of the store, which is wooden, has been destroyed, and there is very little of our equipment which has not been destroyed or damaged in the fire. We had insurance, of course, but this does not cover the cost of new for old, and as our equipment was old, although serviceable, we expect to receive a small amount from the insurance company. The store itself was not insured, so we now have nowhere suitable to store the remainder of our camping gear. We have therefore launched an appeal, the Gamlingay Guides Fire Appeal, to raise funds to obtain a new store and new equipment. We are writing to local businesses to try and enlist their help, and will be undertaking bag-packing at Sainsbury’s in Biggleswade. We will also have a stand at the Village Show – please come along and support us. If anybody feels that they would like to help us by making a donation, however small, to our appeal, we would be extremely grateful. Donations can be accepted at 9 Charnocks Close, or 32 Northfield Close. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lorna and Mary Orchiston, Rebecca Keeves, Gillian Boocock and Pat, Samuel and Sophia Jenkins, who gave up a day of their holidays to help with the horrible task of sorting out and cleaning destroyed and damaged equipment.
The Dog Warden and the Parish Council are extremely concerned about the amount of dog fouling in this area. We need your help to stop this anti-social behaviour by people. If you see it happening this is what you can do:
You can, if you feel comfortable, ask the person to clear up after their pet and then contact the dog Warden
