PLANNING REPORT

(notes from the Parish Council AGM)

The Planning Committee has considered seventy one applications in the past year.

  • Fought to protect the wall at Maypole House because of the implications to the street scene in the Conservation Area.
  • Involved in the modification of the Draft Local Plan - public inquiry will be heard in June.
  • Originally 92 houses allocated to the RH Wale site by special agreement to relocate the industrial area to the outskirts of Gamlingay. This allocation was subsequently withdrawn and the District Council decided to re-allocate the housing to Mill Street. This was not acceptable because the 92 houses had originally been included in addition to the required quota for that Local Plan.
  • Recommendation has now been amended to 39 houses to be built in Mill Street but the Parish Council is still opposing this because: a) the full quota has been met for the current Local Plan, b) Gamlingay will be required to take a substantial amount of development under the next Local Plan in addition to any currently allocated and c) it is almost certain that the Developer will submit an application for significantly more housing than the 39 properties currently specified.
  • An employment audit is currently being undertaken to assess how many jobs are available in the village for people living in the village It is also anticipated that a Design Statement will be issued to specify what development is and is not acceptable in the village and a meeting is being arranged with Cottenham where this has already been done.
