Annual Parish Meeting 2008

to be held on
Tuesday 22nd April 2008
at 7.45 pm in the WI Hall.

P

lans for the refurbishment and redevelopment of the Community Centre were presented at the AGM of the Community Centre Management Committee on 5th March. The Community Centre has served Gamlingay extremely well since it was built 30 years ago but is rapidly falling into a sorry state of repair which needs urgent attention to secure its survival for future generations.

A steering committee consisting of members of Forward Gamlingay!, The Parish Council and The Community Centre Committee have been working extremely hard over the past 6 months to develop plans that will meet the needs of the village for the next 30 years. These plans have been derived from the Parish Plan, The Youth Consultation Programme and numerous other surveys and questionnaires that have been completed by the community over the past 4 years.

The result so far is a 3 phase proposal, the first of which will be implemented in the near future and which is concerned with the external works to the Centre. As can be seen from the Concept Plans on the Web pages, Phase 2 is primarily concerned with making the best of the existing space with the addition of a small extension, and Phase 3 involves a much larger programme of new build.

These Concept Plans are not set in stone and may well be amended for any number of reasons. However, they are a very well researched starting point. All this development depends on the village securing grants from agencies such as the Lottery and WREN and a huge amount of effort is going into this right now.

The eventual building has to be self financing and it must be shown in advance that this will be the case or funding will not be forthcoming.
