If you stopped by the Forward Gamlingay stand at the village show this year, you may have looked at drawings we put up showing how we might improve the area known as Millbridge Brook, with a view to creating a new walkway and a recreation area for the whole village to use.
If you didn’t see them, in this issue are the drawings again and if anyone has any comments or criticism, now is the time to speak out!
The following double page spreads show two drawings:
Drawing (1) shows a view looking down on the field from above and suggests that we could have an all weather pathway running alongside the brook up to Station Road, suitable for walkers, wheelchair users and pushchairs. The field itself could be split into three areas: an ‘informal’ football area for practice and kickabouts; a wildflower area in the middle with paths mown through it in the summer; and a picnic area at the Station Road end which includes benches, trees planted in dedication to loved ones, and hedges and shrubs to provide some shelter from the road and the wind. We would also be clearing the brook to increase water flow and hoping to install a pond dipping platform next to the picnic area.
Drawing (2) shows a close up detail of the grassy area at the back of the Chapel Field houses and suggests a way in which access to the existing recreation ground, and the new walkway can be improved for residents. Those living there will know that their path from the field at the back of the houses is currently blocked by old wire fencing, which narrows to two points and makes getting through there a very undignified scramble! We propose taking back the existing fencing to allow direct access from the recreation ground straight over the bridge onto the Milllbridge Brook walkway, and allow Chapel Field residents to walk easily onto either the recreation ground or the walkway.
This is your chance to comment on these ideas before they become plans. Forward Gamlingay and the Parish Council are working together on this project, and the next stage will be translating the ideas into proper plans and applying for funding to make them happen. You will understand that space is limited here to explain everything in full detail, so if you would like to ask any questions, or comment on the ideas before they go any further please contact Sarah Groom on 651080.
