ood news and some not so good news… this year's show was another huge success. We had some new events and attractions this year and yet again, the weather was good. The number and standard of competition entries was, as usual, excellent.
After taking off costs, we raised over £1,600 profit. This was slightly down on last year's figure of £1,800.
And the other good news is that eight village groups and organisations who applied for a donation will benefit from a share of the profits. These are:
Neighbourhood Watch, Junior Youth Club, Scout Group, Sunshine pre-school, the Resource Centre, St.Mary's Church, the Village College and Gamlingay Care Club.
The not-so-good news is that three members of our committee are moving away. The committee meet once a month (at most) between January and August to plan and co-ordinate the show and then set everything up on the day and make sure everything runs smoothly. Without the committee, the show would not happen, and we were especially grateful this year to the several other people who helped on the day. However, we need more: both on the committee (those with new ideas especially welcomed!) and to help on the day. If we don't get some volunteers, the show's future is in doubt.
The main purposes of the show are to provide the opportunity:
- for local people to display their skills and talents
- to raise the profile of our village clubs and societies
- for members of the village to join together as a community for an enjoyable afternoon
- to raise funds for local community groups and projects
So PLEASE if you can help in any way and can make yourself available for just 6 or 7 very informal evening meetings and then on Saturday 16th September 2006 for the 14th SHOW, then do let one of us know.
