The

weather forecasters were proved wrong. The day of the 12th Village Show on 11th September started bright and, save for one rogue cloud, stayed sunny and breezy.

The crowds came as before to see the excellent competition entries (numbers slightly down on last year but the high quality maintained), to visit the large number of stalls in the marquees, to see football, rugby and skateboarding, as well as the dog show and belly and ballet dancing. The sights and sounds and tastes of previous years were again in evidence, with the raptors, the classic and vintage cars, the fire engine, the funfair, the hog roast and scout barbecue, the jazz band, the WI teas, the history and photography exhibitions, the model railway exhibition and craft displays and much more.

It is really gratifying to hear from people who attended how much they enjoyed the Show. It is always useful as well to hear any new ideas or of how things can be improved. I know that everybody who comes to the Show is aware that a great deal of hard work goes into its preparation for a year beforehand not just on the day itself. I, for one, am always bowled over by the dedication, good humour and willingness to give of their time of so many people. I will not try to list everybody who has helped, but I do wish to thank the Village College for hosting the Show again. The members of the Show Committee, who work hard throughout the year, deserve a very special mention. Show committee meetings are some of the most pleasurable meetings to attend and it has been a pleasure to work with this Committee over the last year. If anybody wishes to join the Committee please contact me on gjv1000@cam.ac.uk or 652181. We will be meeting soon to get preparations under way for the 13th Show next year. At that meeting we will also divide the profits of this years' Show between a wide variety of village organisations and societies which have requested financial assistance and this year we seem to have had more requests than for some time. The ability to provide financial help for these organisations is one of the great pleasures of being involved with the Show, as is the simple fun of doing it. And if something is not fun, then why do it?
