s I write we have just enjoyed the most glorious sun drenched week, which reminds me to look forward to the long summer nights ahead. We can either stay home watching the telly OR come out of hibernation, make new friends, take fresh air and exercise by joining the Gamlingay Tennis club. The committee has just had its first meeting and the good news is that we have reduced the membership fees this year to the following:
That’s fantastic value for a whole year’s tennis! We are also offering a 10 % discount for joining on or before the start of the season tournament on May 11th. Make sure you don’t miss out on that! We have arranged plenty of fun tournaments starting with the FREE season opener on Sunday 11th May from 2.00 pm. Everyone in the village is welcome to this free tennis event with refreshments-cakes and wine etc. Also we have lots of freebies to give away from the Lawn Tennis Association- T-shirts, sports bags, drinks bottles, pens and notebooks. Let’s hope the weather stays with us! The junior tennis players in our village, who are excellent, will have a match on Sunday 1st of June. Come down and watch them! During Wimbledon on the 29th of June, a Strawberries and Cream mixed age doubles tournament will be staged. Lots of fun will be had by all! If you feel you might need some coaching or have never tried playing tennis before don’t despair! We are thrilled to have Bob back to give us a hand. His ten-week coaching course will begin on Tuesday May 13th. I cannot emphasize what fantastic value this is! Charges are as follows:
Last but not least are the weekly club nights. Juniors are encouraged to knock balls around on Wednesday’s between 6.30 to 7.30 and the Seniors (I prefer young adults!) can do the same on Thursdays from 6.30 till it gets so dark you can’t see the thing! So join up early and don’t forget the Lawn tennis association goodies we are giving away on May 11th. This really is the best way for all age groups to meet new friends and get involved in the village. If you would like to participate please get in touch with Bridget Smith on 01767-650510 and let’s play tennis!
